문법은 여러 문제를 함께 말하는 not only … but also 예요.

1. Scenario

I was the Captain of HL123, arriving at our destination, where several problems came together.

There was a line of CB cells near the approach, so we had to deviate around the weather. At the same time, the destination was reporting low visibility, close to our minima. And because of the deviation and the delay, our fuel was getting limited. Not only the weather but also our fuel was now a concern.

Our first priority was to fly the aircraft and avoid the CB, so we requested a deviation and stayed well clear of the cells. Then we managed the rest by priority.

We assessed that the low visibility might not improve in time, and that holding would use fuel we needed. While we were still deviating around the cells, we asked ATC to confirm the alternate's weather. It was good, so rather than gamble on the destination we committed to divert while we still had the fuel — and ATC had the clearance ready.

We coordinated with dispatch, flew a normal approach at the alternate, and landed safely with our reserves intact.

2. At a Glance

English — Arriving at the destination, three problems came together: CB cells near the approach, low visibility close to minima, and limited fuel after a deviation. The skill here is prioritization: fly the aircraft and avoid the CB first, then weigh the weather and the fuel together. Not only the weather but also the fuel mattered, so rather than gamble on the destination, we diverted to a good alternate while we still had the fuel.

핵심: not only A but also B = "A뿐 아니라 B도".

9. Model Answer — Q1

"What happened to your aircraft? Explain the nature of the incident."

I was arriving at our destination, where several problems came together.

Looking back, it was all about priorities — fly and avoid the CB first, then make one clear decision instead of being pulled in three directions.

10. Model Answer — Q2

"How do you think ATC handled the situation? Could it have been handled differently?"

In short, ATC kept up with everything that was happening. They approved our weather deviation quickly, and when we asked them to confirm the alternate's weather while we were still avoiding the CB, they relayed it and had the divert clearance ready, so the moment we committed there was no delay. With several things happening at once, that quick, clear support really reduced our workload.

What would really help is joined-up information — the weather trend and the expected delay together — so the diversion decision can come even sooner. Even so, their clear deviations and quick clearance carried us to a safe outcome.

11. Follow-up Q&A

  1. With several problems at once, what do you do first? → Fly the aircraft and deal with the most immediate threat — here, avoiding the CB — then weigh the rest by priority.
  2. Why divert instead of holding for the weather? → Holding would have used fuel we needed, and the visibility might not have improved in time, so diverting while we had the fuel was the safer choice.
  3. How did the deviation affect your fuel? → Going around the CB used extra fuel, which is part of why the fuel became a concern.
  4. What is the main skill in a mixed scenario? → Prioritization — not trying to solve everything at once, but dealing with things in the right order and making one clear decision.
